Our Story

Inspired by Jack Southall

While receiving palliative care in Room 523 at Surrey Memorial Hospital, Jack Southall formed a connection with his roommate, Doug. Although Doug's health was declining, he was looking forward to a special evening with his children: seeing the new Star Wars film together. Understanding how much the occasion meant, Jack took it upon himself to arrange a haircut and shave for him.

Jack's compassion became the inspiration behind Maple & Scissor, a mobile senior haircut service created to bring patient, respectful care to seniors wherever they may be.

The change reached far beyond appearance. Doug felt refreshed, confident, and excited for the evening ahead. Through one thoughtful gesture, Jack showed that personal care can preserve dignity, restore familiarity, and remind someone that they are still seen, valued, and worthy of feeling like themselves.
